The Courteeners

Not Nineteen Forever

Second-last single went in at number 44. Last single, 20. Do we have to draw you a graph? The Hype Halving Rule remains mathematically valid: this’ll likely hit the Top Ten, though mainly because the Top Ten is limp and this is some ladrock equivalent of Scouting For Girls. “God bless the band/They’re doing all they can”, Liam Fray laments at its climax, and we’d sympathise. The lyrics might contain a vivid dissection of failing relationships, but musically it’s so under-produced it’s a bit like saying Ronnie Corbett is ‘doing all he can’ as goalie for Tottenham Hotspur.

Quality band....this track is one of the best off 'St Jude'. Iv seen Liam acousticaly and he is qualty, plus seen the guys at an instore and a couple of gigs and they are brilliant guys and live they are awesome for such a new band. Good luck with the song guys!

I'd have to agree with the review. The Courteeners seem endemic of the corrent wave of faux guitar bands who on the surface claim to be saving Indie rock and roll while in fact doing the complete opposite, much like Scouting for Girls. There is so much more diversity in the Manchester music scene, so many other bands doing much more exciting things and putting on much better live shows, The Ting Tings for one as well as the Manyanas, the Whip and the Paris Riots.
