Dentist will cover The Smiths and Snow Patrol for debut album

NHS dentist Andrew Bain, an opera singer, has signed a record deal with SonyBMG and will cover the likes of The Smiths, Snow Patrol and ABBA on his September-bound debut album.

The dentist will sing 'How Soon Is Now?', 'Chasing Cars' and 'The Winner Takes All' by the aforementioned bands. He will not record classic opera songs as part of his repertoire.

Bain secured the record deal after submitting a cover of 'Purple Rain' by Prince.

"This is the ultimate dream come true," he said in a statement. "Not only have I finally got a record deal, but they understand my eclectic taste in music. Who needs yet another version of 'Nessun Dorma'?

He added: "Opera really was the pop music of its day, so I feel that mixing this style with the pop songs of today is a natural progression, despite what the critics might say."
