The 'Umbrella' star is set to hit the big screen

Rihanna is to make her first foray into movies, with a starring role in upcoming film 'Mama Black Widow'.

The film, also set to star rapper-turned-actor Mos Def, is based on a 1969 novel by former pimp Iceberg Slim.

The book tells the story of a black household in the 1930s American south.

The film will be directed by Darren Grant, who made his name directing music videos for the likes of Destiny's Child.
