The actor who played the original Freddy Krueger is reprising his role for an upcoming Halloween episode of ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs’.
Robert Englund will return as the horror icon for the first time in 15 years. Englund originally played Krueger in Wes Craven’s 1984’s Nightmare on Elm Street.
The Goldbergs, a show well-known for celebrating 80’s culture, announced his role in the show in a Tweet on Friday (21 September), saying “Halloween episode this year is going to be a NIGHTMARE. @RobertBEnglund will guest star as the one and only Freddy Krueger!”

In the clip, Beverly Goldberg who plays Wendi McLendon-Covey introduces ‘Fredward’ to audiences as the episode’s star guest saying “he’s just enchanting…very well mannered. We got our nails done at the same place.” Krueger, meanwhile, appears saying: “trick or treat.”
The episode, titled “Nightmare on Elk Avenue” focusses on one teenage character, Adam, who struggles to watch the iconic original film for the first time.
According to Digital Spy, the actor said last year that although “he can still be mean and scary”, he was “too old” to reprise the original role again as the fight scenes take too much physical effort.
Englund last featured as Krueger in 2003’s Freddy vs Jason.
