Black Lips set off firecrackers on stage in the John Peel tent this afternoon (June 28) as they closed their afternoon set at Glastonbury.

The Atlanta band ended their set with 'Juvenile', during which smoke and fire crackles began emanating from the area around guitarist Ian St Pe's feet, along with a series of loud bangs.

Initially there was some confusion about the source of the mini-explosions, but it soon became clear that the guitarist had set off a batch of firecrackers, providing a thrilling climax to his band’s show.

Earlier in the set the four-piece had been joined by Har Mar Superstar, who bounded on stage during 'Bad Kids'. He had earlier joined Neon Neon during their Other Stage set.

Har Mar danced around the band, rubbing St Pe's legs and mounting drummer Joe Bradley's drum kit. He also managed to knock over a plastic pig's head which the band had perched on a metal stand.

St Pe was sporting his trademark pair of gold teeth grills, but bassist Jared Swilley had shaved off his previously-highly-recognisable moustache.

After Har Mar Superstar's cameo the band tore through a set including 'Stranger' and 'Buried Alive' to a sparse audience.

The three pigs heads on the stage had prompted the John Peel tent host to quip before the set: "Are you waiting to see the police or something?"

Black Lips weren’t put off by the low attendance, though, with an amped-up 'Juvenile' – aided by the aforementioned firecrackers – providing a frenetic finish to the set.

Black Lips played:

'I Saw A Ghost (Lean)'
'Katrina'
'Sea Of Blasphemy'
'Bad Kids'
'Dirty Hands'
'Gung Ho'
'Cold hands'
'Dutronc'
'Buried Alive'
'Stranger'
'Lock And Key'
'Not A Problem'
'Make It'
'Fairy Stories'
'Ain't Coming'Back'
'Too Much In Love'
'Juvenile'
