Former Beach Boy wants to keep fans 'cool'

Brian Wilson has offered to refund fan who were unsatisfied with a recent show in New York City, after seeing their comments on his website.

The former Beach Boy and his manager-wife Melinda Wilson responded to unhappy concert-goers after the ‘Stand Up For A Cure’ charity benefit at Hammerstein Ballroom last week (July 11) during which Wilson only played for 75 minutes.

Some tickets for the show cost several hundred dollars, but patrons complained of bad visibility and the fact that Wilson did not play with a full band. They were also unhappy with his choice of songs, reports brooklynvegan.com.

Melinda Wilson announced on brianwilson.com that fans who were unhappy could send their ticket stubs to the Wilson’s publicist who would reimburse them.

Her message read:

"Brian saw the posts and asked me to respond. He's really sensitive to all of your feelings and doesn't want to offend anyone. He wanted to make this offer to keep everyone cool (as he said)…”

Meanwhile, Brian Wilson plays a free show at Coney Island tonight (July 18), and she recommends that the unhappy fans “take advantage of that.”

Wow...unbelievable. This is how bad the mob mentality/crowd idiocy has become in my country, the States. These idiots go to a CHARITY gig and bitch about it until they're blue in the face, so Wilson decides to empty his pockets to appease them so he doesn't lose any fans. What's sad is not only are these people complete and utter morons for complaining about the quality of music at a charity gig, but that Wilson felt the need to appease the idiot masses with money to shut them up. Just goes to show why most people really do charity - not because they think it's right, but because there's a good performer or they want to look cool in front of their friends - "hey guys, i spent $150 on a concert but it's for CHARITY so it's cool - and Brian Wilson is playing, woo hoo!" I am so saddened by this, the morons in this country really are steering the ship right now.

Everyone has bad days, and this is a really really classy gesture on Brian's part. I've Been lucky enough to see him live 3 times, and he's been amazing every time.

It's ridiculous. It took maybe two or three fans to raise a stink, and the only explanation is ignorance. It was known well ahead of time that it was a charity show and that it would be a "greatest hits" show...which itself is a bit of a misnomer, because there were several tunes during the concert that are a bit off the beaten path, as well as two songs from Brian's upcoming album. As for the bad visibility, there were a handful of seats that were way in the back, and most people who were there moved forward to some empty seats in better sections after it became obvious that nobody would be sitting there. Overall, it was a really, really good show. It was more expensive than most concerts I've attended, but as a die-hard fan, I was extremely happy with it.
